Taxes payable

There are two taxes to be paid by the buyer before the deed:

• IMT (Municipal Tax on the Transfer of Real Estate), see table
• Stamp Tax (0.8%)

These two taxes are only paid once and are levied on the greater of the following values: Business value or VPT (Tax Asset Value).

The seller does not pay taxes in this act.

Annually the new owner will pay the IMI (Municipal on Properties) which in the Municipality of Barcelos is 0,33% on the VPT.

Both in the case of IMT and IMI there are exemption situations.

The previous owner may or may not pay capital gains depending on several factors: Purchase and sale value, reinvested amounts, etc.
